Wolfsburg coach Kovac happy that Germany has no Boxing Day football

Wolfsburg coach Niko Kovac is happy that the Bundesliga pauses over the festive season and doesn’t have games over Christmas like the Premier League.

“We are not in England where we have two more teams and Boxing Day. I think that is the German culture: it is Christmas and we celebrate Christmas. So it is OK if it doesn’t continue until the new year,” Kovac said.

The Bundesliga has a full winter break, with the last games this term played on December 20 and the restart set for January 12.

The Premier League plays right through the festive season, with five Games set for Boxing Day Tuesday, and play continuing over the following days, with games on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. This season also had a Christmas Eve match.
