This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.
Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

West Ham come from behind to earn a point in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool. The Reds dominated throughout but struggled to create anything of note in the first half apart from when Diaz hit the foot of the post with a pacy shot. West Ham were clinical though and after testing Alisson a couple of times, he nodded in the opener just before the break. Liverpool rallied in the second half, and Robertson drilled in a low equaliser just three minutes after the restart. They created an xG of 1.64 compared to West Ham’s 0.7 throughout the game and eventually took the lead when Gakpo’s volley deflected off Ogbonna and then Areola to cross the line. They couldn’t hold onto their lead though, and Antonio thumped in the equaliser. Elliott had a late chance to win it but struck the woodwork with a long-range strike. The draw leaves Liverpool in third, two points off leaders Arsenal, who don’t play until tomorrow. Next up for them is Tottenham. The Hammers, meanwhile, stay in third, now one point off the top seven, but having played two games more. They travel to Chelsea next weekend. That’s all for today, goodbye!

Liverpool’s title hopes were dented in midweek as they were beaten 2-0 by Everton in an entertaining Merseyside derby before Manchester City beat Brighton on Thursday to see the Reds drop to third having played one game more than the Citizens. They remain three points behind leaders Arsenal and are looking to bounce back after winning just one of their last four Premier League matches (D1 L2). They had won back-to-back away games against Atalanta and Fulham before their trip to Goodison Park, and Jurgen Klopp will be desperate for them to return to winning ways.

With just four games remaining in the season, West Ham are at risk of losing out on a European place after a recent drop in form that has seen them win just one of their last eight games in all competitions (D3 L4). They’ve suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats against Fulham (2-0) and Crystal Palace (5-2), and sandwiched between those was a Europa League quarter-final exit at the hands of newly crowned Bundesliga champions, Bayer Leverkusen. The Hammers have won just one of their last eight Premier League home games – a 4-2 victory over Brentford in February – but haven’t lost consecutive matches on home soil since a run of three in November-December 2022.
