Turkey coach Vincenzo Montella said Friday his side can expect an “extraordinary atmosphere, as if we were playing at home” in Saturday’s friendly against Germany in Berlin.

There are roughly three million people of Turkish origin or descent living in Germany, the largest diaspora outside Turkey, with many living in the capital.

An expected crowd of 70,000 is forecast for the game, up to half of which could be cheering for the visitors.

“There are a lot of Turks living here and we want to make them proud,” said the 49-year-old coach.

Germany have qualified as hosts of Euro 2024, while Turkey have already booked their ticket for the tournament and are on course to top their group.

The Italian was appointed Turkey coach in September after his German predecessor Stefan Kuntz was let go.

Montella counted Germany among the favourites for next year’s tournament.

“Germany has a very good team, a team with the potential to win the tournament,” Montella told reporters on Friday.

“In order to be able to continue our preparations, it is important to show a good performance here.”
