Martha’s Vineyard girls soccer team wins with seven different scorers


The Martha’s Vineyard girls soccer team defeated Dennis-Yarmouth 9-0 on Tuesday, and have not given up a goal this season yet. The Vineyarders (2-0-0) spread the ball all around with seven different goal scorers and 10 different players accounting for points.

Elena Giordano (two goals, two assists), and Talia Maccaferri (two goals, one assist) led the way on offense. Paige Malowski (one goal, one assist), Elle Mone (one goal on direct kick), and Jane Coogan (one goal on penalty kick, one assist) each contributed on offense.

Audrey Heidt, and Aedan Coogan each scored their first varsity goals, while Sydney Bruguiere, Avery Mulvey, and Esme Colon each recorded their first varsity assists. Georgia Magden and Delilah Oliver shared the shutout (split halves).

Both Jillian Allen and Arianna Corso showed aggressiveness on defense, and Nadia Cerqueira played multiple positions on the field for D-Y (0-2-0).

Girls Soccer

Cape Cod Academy 8, Cape Tech 0: The Seahawks (1-1-0) bounced back from a loss yesterday to Upper Cape with a shutout win on the road. Jenna Marsh shot the ball 11 shots, and four of them found the back of the net. Olivia Daigle, Grace Murray, Maeve Lopes, and Lila Harden each contributed a goal. The Seahawks had 10 corner kicks.

Falmouth 1, Nantucket 0: The Clippers (1-2-0) win their first game of the season, while handing the Whalers (2-1-0) their first loss of the year. The lone goal of the game came from Scarlett Oberton off of a corner from Riley Devlin. Camille Femino, Phoebe Corner and Leah Forys, and Erin Murphy (in net) played well for Falmouth. Claire Misurelli and Gabby Nikolova played well for Nantucket.

Sturgis West 3, Barnstable 2: After trailing 2-0, the Navigators scored three straight, and opened up their season with a win on the road over the Red Hawks (0-2-0).

Avery Haines scored the first goal in the 33rd minute. Mary Kudarauskas found the back of the net two minutes later off a corner kick from Haleigh Maurice. In the 79th minute, Jocelyn DeMedeiros scored the winning goal in final 90 seconds of game.

Claire Hazard and Madalynn Stanley each socred, and Haylie Voravong played well in goal for Barnstable.

Bishop Feehan 6, Nauset 0: The Warriors (1-1-0) lost their first game of the season.

Boys Soccer

Falmouth 1, Nantucket 1: The Clippers (1-2-1) and Whalers (1-0-1) ended their game in a tie. Webert Muniz of Falmouth scored an unassisted goal in the final minute of the first half. Jose Diaz of Nantucket pounced on a loose ball and leveled the game in the final minute of the game.

Aiden Congdon tended the net and made five saves on the day, while freshmen Calvin Guevera and Edwin Valentukevicius impacted the defense and midfield play for Nantucket.

Nauset 3, St. John Paul II 0: Charlie Cushing finished with two goals, and Omari Perry added another for the Warriors (2-0-0) as they beat the Lions (0-1-1).

Monomoy 3, Archbishop Williams 0: After losing their season opener, the Sharks (2-1-0) have won two in a row.

Cape Cod Academy 2, Cape Tech 1: After falling yesterday to Upper Cape, the Seahawks (1-1-0) bounced back with their first win of the season over the Crusaders (0-1-0).

Martha’s Vineyard 4, Dennis-Yarmouth 2: The Vineyarders (2-0-0) remain unbeaten on the season while the Dolphins drop to 0-2-0.

Barnstable 10, Sturgis West 0: Kaiky Carvalho and Marcelo Diamantino each had hat tricks, and captains Philipe Ribeiro and Finn O’Donell also played well for Barnstable (1-1-0).

Girls Volleyball

Falmouth 3, Mashpee 0: The Clippers (2-1) swept the Falcons (0-2) in straight sets 25-23, 25-14, 25-17. Christina Femino had 12 assists, two aces, and three kills, while Anna Seyler finished with six kills, one block, and three aces for Falmouth. The back row players of Delia Roulston (10 digs), and Maia Ledwell (seven digs) played solid as well.

Norwell 3, Sandwich 0: The Blue Knights (0-2) fell in straight sets (19-25, 12-25, 19-25). Mia Mulcahy led the way on defense with 14 blocks, while Allie Loewen and Olivia McNeill each had a solo block. On offense, Ella McCabe had eight kills, while Alanna Schreibeis added five kills, and Kiah Forristall had one kill. Mia Consalvi came in on the third set as a libero and played well, that included an ace.

St. John Paul II 3, Upper Cape 0: The Lions (3-1) won with a sweep (25-15, 25-9, 25-14) over the Rams (0-1). Rosanna Sullivan had five aces, six kills, and eight digs, while Zlata Alioshka finished with two aces, four kills, 13 assists and four digs for JPII. Charlotte Sturgis added two aces, five kills, and two digs, while Molly Pulit contributed eight digs for JPII.

Ella Kerrigan led the defense with 10 digs for Upper Cape, while Emma King and Ava Currier played well on offense.

Field Hockey

Sandwich 4, Falmouth 0: Khloe Schultz finished with two goals and an assist for the Blue Knights (2-0). Julia Giampietro and Julia O’Neil each added a goal, Elisabeth Stutzman contributed an assist, and Avery Cobban had two saves in net to preserve the shutout.

Cohasset 9, Mashpee 0: Ayesha Shafi finished with six saves, while George Tompkins added nine saves for the Falcons (1-2).

Boys Golf

Upper Cape 7 1/2, Bristol Plymouth 1 1/2: The Rams picked up the win at Sandwich Hollows par 36. Matt Nawoichik led the way with a 41, while Asher Graff (43), Tyler Kutil (43), Zephyn Johnson (48), Nolan Roche (49), and Brandon Dunn (55) rounded out the top six for Upper Cape.

Nauset 248, Barnstable 253: Jack Martin led the way as he shot a 36 for the Warriors (2-1) at Captains Port. Max St. Abubin (40), Sean Kipperman (41), Zach Weiner (43), Paul Alves, and Matthew Breda (45) finished out the top six for Nauset.

Chad Tordone also shot a 36 for the Red Hawks (3-2). He was followed by Charlie Campbell (39), Brody Nigham (42), Colin Gleason (43), J.J. Swindler (45), and Cam Levesque (48).

Falmouth 253, Dennis-Yarmouth 296: Declan Norris shot a 38 to lead the Clippers (1-0) to their first win of the season at Dennis Pines par 36. Chris Shanahan (40), Hayden Cusolito (41), Charlie Bardeus (44), Cole Gaudet (45), and Jackson Falcone (45) finished in the top six for Falmouth.

Robbie McPhee led the Dolphins (0-2) with a 44. Trey McPherson (46), Connor Bosiak (47), Adam Ruder (53), Kaleb Haddad (53), and James Mullen (53) finished in the top six for D-Y.

St. John Paul II 249, Sturgis East 332: The Lions (2-0) were led by senior captain Jack Carstensen’s 38 at Willowbend’s Bay Course. Tim Adams recorded a 40, followed by 42s from Bella Scioletti and Chris Heywood. Ryan Weisner paced the Storm (0-2) with a team-best 47.

Sturgis West 298, Rising Tide 305: The Navigators (1-0) won their first match with a win over the Herons at Bayberry Hill Golf Club.

Monomoy 255, Martha’s Vineyard 261: Jackson Rocco and Casey Huse led the way for the Sharks (2-0) as they each shot a 38 at Chatham Seaside Links par 34 in a win over the Vineyarders (0-1). Christian Whittle and Hank Brown each shot a 44, Braden Burke finished with a 45, and Aiden Stone shot a 46 for Monomoy.

Nantucket 258, Cape Cod Academy 275: The Whalers improve to 2-1, while the Seahawks fall to 1-2.

Boys Cross Country

Sandwich 20, Rockland 36: Connor Bruni placed first overall, while Harry Glover (2nd), Peter Milburn (4th), Henry Murphy (6th) and Henry Rockwell (7th) all placed in the top 10 for the Blue Knights.

Girls Cross Country

Rockland 26, Sandwich 29: Lexi Eastman (2nd), Lena Paxton (3rd), Brigid Kelly (5th), Emma Moynihan (9th), and Charolette Grant (10th) all placed in the top 10 for the Blue Knights.
