Sheridan volleyball falls in 5; Sheridan girls soccer marches on


CHILLICOTHE — Top seed Sheridan has been in this position before, facing a decisive fifth set to keep its season alive.

Unfortunately, the Generals came up short, as fourth seed Marietta rallied for a 14-25, 22-25, 31-29, 25-18, 15-8 victory in the Division II district semifinal at Chillicothe Southeastern.

The loss ended a string of five straight district championships (2018-22) by Sheridan.

Jamisyn Stinson tallied 21 kills with eight digs and four aces, Nora Saffell hit 15 kills with two blocks, Payton Powell totaled 20 digs, 18 assists, five kills and four aces, Dylan Fox set 41 assists with five digs and three kills and Ava Heller added 11 kills and 12 digs for Sheridan.

Marietta will face Fairfield Union, which beat New Lex in four sets, in the other district semifinal. The district final is noon on Saturday at Southeastern.

Girls Soccer

Division II

Sheridan 3, Circleville 1: Dylan Gibbs scored twice in the second half, including the go-ahead penalty kick to make it 2-1 with 26:48 left in the match, as the fifth seeded Generals advanced to the district final.

They will face Fairfield Union on Thursday.

Emily Malone scored on a rebound to put Sheridan up 1-0 about 10 minutes into the match, but the third-seeded Tigers tied it at 1 when Faith Yancey found the back of the net with 13:33 left in the first half.

Boys Soccer

Division III

Hiland 3, Rosecrans 0: Caedon Hershberger, Zach Gingerich and Zeke Bodiker each scored in the first half, as the top-seeded Hawks beat the fourth-seeded Bishops in a district semifinal at Coshocton’s Stewart Field.

Christian Mullett and Ohlen Troyer had goals in the second half for the Hawks.
