PST’s predictions for Week 9 of 2023-24 season

The October international break is officially in the rearview mirror, which means the Premier League is set to return this weekend.

Title chasers Arsenal got a monumental win over three-time defending champions Manchester City two weekends ago, but life doesn’t get much easier for Mikel Arteta’s side, with a trip to Chelsea on the cards in matchweek 9.

Elsewhere, there is a small matter of the Merseyside derby, as Liverpool and Everton kick off the weekend’s fixtures, while Man City seek to snap their two-game losing skid against a very formidable foe in Brighton.

Here are some of the oddsmakers’ lines and our predictions for Week 9 for the 2023-24 Premier League season, along with a line or two of analysis from the PST staff.

Odds, predictions for Week 9 of the 2023-24 Premier League season – By Andy EdwardsLiverpool vs Everton

Kickoff: 7:30am ET Saturday

Odds: Liverpool (-275) vs Everton (+675) | Draw (+450)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network — Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Everton put forth their best outing of the season last time out, beating Bournemouth 3-0 at Goodison Park, but Liverpool? At Anfield? That’s a tough ask, even after the Reds took just one point from their final two games before the international break. Liverpool 3-1 Everton

Manchester City vs Brighton

Kickoff: 10am ET Saturday

Odds: Man City (-225) vs Brighton (+525) | Draw (+400)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network — Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Brighton’s only league defeats came again Aston Villa and West Ham — the common theme? All-out counter-attacking sides, and they both made the Seagulls look downright bad on the day. City are hardly that with over 61 percent of possession on the season (tops in the PL), but they do have the personnel (Jeremy Doku, Jack Grealish, Julian Alvarez and Matheus Nunes) to call something of an audible against a side that undeniably commands their full respect. Rodri’s return will make a world of difference as well. Man City 3-2 Brighton

Newcastle vs Crystal Palace

Kickoff: 10am ET Saturday

Odds: Newcastle (-210) vs Crystal Palace (+600) | Draw (+333)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: No side in the PL has seen fewer goals scored (by either side) this season than Palace — seven for, seven against. Number of times that either side scored multiple goals in their games: three. Five were scored in a 3-2 win over Wolves, followed by a 3-1 defeat to Villa. In their three games since, one goal scored, in the victory over Manchester United. It’ll be a grind and a slog, but Newcastle find a way. Newcastle 1-0 Crystal Palace

Bournemouth vs Wolves

Kickoff: 10am ET Saturday

Odds: Bournemouth (+138) vs Wolves (+188) | Draw (+240)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: It’s hard to win games when you can’t score goals, and no side has scored fewer than Bournemouth (5) — hence why the Cherries are still one of two winless sides. They won’t have many better chances than against Wolves, though, with Gary O’Neil’s side allowing 1.86 xG per 90 (5th-most in the PL). Alas… Bournemouth 1-1 Wolves

Brentford vs Burnley

Kickoff: 10am ET Saturday

Odds: Brentford (-130) vs Burnley (+360) | Draw (+270)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: Don’t look now, but Brentford have just one win on the season (same as Burnley) and the Bees are S-T-R-U-G-G-L-I-N-G to create scoring chances (1.0 xG per 90 over their last four PL games, 0W-1D-3L) without Ivan Toney, Kevin Schade, Rico Henry and Mikkel Damsgaard. There will, however, be opportunities against Burnley when the Clarets take their usual risks in possession. Brentford 2-1 Burnley

Nottingham Forest vs Luton Town

Kickoff: 10am ET Saturday

Odds: Forest (-155) vs Luton (+450) | Draw (+275)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: After a promising start that raised hopes (and expectations), Forest have hit a bit of a lull without a win in their last four league outings, though Steven Cooper’s side has secured a trio of draws in that time. A mid-table defensive side (1.35 xGA per 90), but a bottom-three side offensively (0.98 xG per 90), Forest will have to find a way to score goals without star striker Taiwo Awoniyi for a couple more weeks. Forest 1-1 Luton

Chelsea vs Arsenal

Kickoff: 12:30pm ET Saturday

Odds: Chelsea (+200) vs Arsenal (+130) | Draw (+240)

TV Channel/Stream: NBC — Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Though they boast identical xG numbers (1.88 per 90) and rank 2nd and 3rd in the PL in xGA through eight games, Arsenal and Chelsea currently sit 2nd and 11th, respectively, in the table that matters most. Perhaps the Blues’ scoring luck has already begun to turn, with a 2-0 victory over Fulham and a 4-1 hammering of Burnley before the break. Mauricio Pochettino’s side is progressing, but they are not there quite yet. Chelsea 1-2 Arsenal

Sheffield United vs Manchester United

Kickoff: 3pm ET Saturday

Odds: Sheff Utd (+600) vs Man Utd (-225) | Draw (+375)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: If Manchester United, who have kept just two clean sheets thus far (against Wolves and Crystal Palace, two dire attacking teams), can’t keep a clean sheet against Sheffield United (0.76 xG per 90), Erik ten Hag has even bigger problems than we imagined. The Blades rank last in xGA as well (2.45 per 90), just as their one point from eight games puts 20th out of 20. Sheff Utd 0-2 Man Utd

Aston Villa vs West Ham

Kickoff: 11:30am ET Sunday

Odds: Aston Villa (+100) vs West Ham (+260) | Draw (+270)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network — Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: How does a counter-attacking side counter-attack when they find themselves up against yet another counter-attacking team? One of Unai Emery and David Moyes will have to blink first and accept possession of the football in order to get the game going. It’ll be drab until the first goal goes in, then probably choas. Aston Villa 3-2 West Ham

Tottenham vs Fulham

Kickoff: 3pm ET Monday

Odds: Tottenham (-200) vs Fulham (+475) | Draw (+360)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network — Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Ironically, Spurs’ best performance in more than a month came in the one game they failed to win — the 2-2 draw away to Arsenal. Otherwise, 97th- and 99th-minute goals sealed a comeback against Sheffield United; a 95th-minute winner to beat nine-man Liverpool; and a fortunate 1-0 victory via set-piece goal against Luton. At some point, the league leaders will stop getting off the hook when not at their best, but not on Monday. Tottenham 2-1 Fulham

Odds, predictions for Week 8 of the 2023-24 Premier League season – By Nick Mendola – 4 out of 10 correct results, 2 correct scoresLuton Town vs Tottenham Hotspur

Kickoff: 7:30am ET SaturdayOdds: Luton (+525) vs Spurs (-225) | Draw (+375)TV Channel/Stream: USA Network — Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Two relatively fresh sides, and Rob Edwards has had Luton playing ornery and fast. But that’s only going to put Ange Postecoglou in his comfort seat. Luton 0-2 Tottenham

Burnley vs Chelsea

Kickoff: 10am ET Saturday

Odds: Burnley (+375) vs Chelsea (-145) | Draw (+290)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: Vincent Kompany’s Clarets will be flying high off a Monday win at Luton, but vibes can only take you so far. That’s especially true with Chelsea feeling good feelings of their own. Even with injuries and visitors’ status, the Blues should be good to go. Burnley 1-3 Chelsea

Everton vs Bournemouth

Kickoff: 10am ET Saturday

Odds: Everton (-110) vs Bournemouth (+280) | Draw (+260)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: The Toffees need to take the next step, and back-to-back home losses to Luton and Bournemouth are almost unfathomable. Andoni Iraola’s men are coming off a home battering by Arsenal that completes an almost-absurd ask of Premier League fixtures. Will they exhale while Everton’s holding it in? Everton 1-1 Bournemouth

Fulham vs Sheffield United

Kickoff: 10am ET Saturday

Odds: Fulham (-160) vs Sheff Utd (+475) | Draw (+300)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: The teams averaging the joint-fewest shot attempts per game in the Premier League meet at Craven Cottage, and the sad stats don’t stop there. 19th and 20th in dribbles per game. 19th and 20th in big chances created. The difference, so far, is that Fulham has Palhinha and Bernd Leno. They can control possession a bit and the back-end heroics continue to be astounding — Leno has the fourth-best post-shot expected goals minus goal against total in the Premier League (The Blades’ Wes Foderingham is eighth). There’s enough here for the hosts, but… is there? Fulham 0-0 Sheffield United.

Manchester United vs Brentford

Kickoff: 10am ET Saturday

Odds: Man Utd (-160) vs Brentford (+380) | Draw (+320)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network — Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Definitely tune in, but also stay away from the predicting game here. Man Utd played at midweek and got a taste of what’s to come from Rasmus Hojlund. It also got another alarming performance in the 3-2 loss to Galatasaray which follows an alarming performance in the loss to Palace. It’s challenging to expect great things out of Man Utd, even at home, and last season you would’ve pegged Brentford to deliver at least a point. But the Bees aren’t stinging without Ivan Toney, as Bryan Mbeumo is probably feeling on an island despite Yoane Wissa’s best efforts. We’ll lean on history here. The Bees pounded United at home last season but have lost both Old Trafford matches since returning to the Premier League. Man Utd 2-1 Brentford.

Crystal Palace vs Nottingham Forest

Kickoff: 12:30pm ET Saturday

Odds: Palace (+110) vs Forest (+260) | Draw (+225)

TV Channel/Stream: NBC — Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Palace would normally be the call here, but no Odsonne Edouard. No Michael Olise. And now no Eberechi Eze. There are pieces here with Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jordan Ayew atop a very ornery midfield, and Selhurst Park is for real… but it’s a big ask against a well set-up Forest, isn’t it? Palace 0-1 Forest.

Brighton vs Liverpool

Kickoff: 9am ET Sunday

Odds: Brighton (+185) vs Liverpool (+120) | Draw (+290)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: Who’s going to be angrier about their table status? And who’s got the better depth to weather Europa League action? We don’t know the former but we do know the latter. Brighton 2-3 Liverpool

Wolves vs Aston Villa

Kickoff: 9am ET Sunday

Odds: Wolves (+240) vs Villa (+105) | Draw (+260)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: There’s some stake-evening animosity here, Villa’s out-performing both xG and xGA, and the visitors have a Thursday visit from Zrinjszki in the Conference League. So this should be closer than one might think. Wolves 1-1 Villa.

West Ham vs Newcastle

Kickoff: 9am ET Sunday

Odds: West Ham (+210) vs Newcastle (+115) | Draw (+260)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: West Ham struggles to deal with free-flowing teams, but they do have Jarrod Bowen. They also have a trip to Freiburg on Thursday in what will be anything but a Europa League walk in the park. The Magpies have a day’s further rest from their Champions League bout with PSG, but also don’t have linchpin Sven Botman. And it’s in London. Hmmm… West Ham 1-2 Newcastle.

Arsenal vs Manchester City

Kickoff: 11:30am ET Sunday

Odds: Arsenal (+185) vs Man City (+140) | Draw (+250)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: No Rodri for sure. No Bukayo Saka for unsure. Arsenal won the Community Shield off City in penalties but hasn’t otherwise beaten the PL champs in eight matches. Since 2015, the Gunners’ only wins over City are two in the FA Cup and the aforementioned shield triumph. Is Sunday the day, with Arsenal holding one more day’s rest than its visitors? Arsenal 2-4 Man City.

Odds, predictions for Week 7 of the 2023-24 Premier League season (+1 rescheduled match) – By Nick Mendola – 6 out of 11 correct results, 2 correct scoresAston Villa vs Brighton

Kickoff: 7:30am ET SaturdayOdds: Aston Villa (+145) vs Brighton (+155) | Draw (+290)TV Channel/Stream: USA Network — Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Talk about a toss-up. Villa Park could be the difference maker here but betting against Brighton is fraught. Yeah, we’re totally hedging here. Aston Villa 1-1 Brighton.

Manchester United vs Crystal Palace

Kickoff: 10am ET Saturday

Odds: Man Utd (-175) vs Palace (+450) | Draw (+320)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network — Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Man United really streamrolled Palace in League Cup play at midweek but both teams had more than a few second-choice players on the pitch. The absences of Odsonne Edouard and Michael Olise, should they continue as expected, should be too much for the Eagles to weather on a second Old Trafford test in five days. Man United 3-1 Palace

Bournemouth vs Arsenal

Kickoff: 10am ET Saturday

Odds: Bournemouth (+450) vs Arsenal (-190) | Draw (+360)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: A Tyler Adams return is nice and there are reasons to think the Gunners could be in for a letdown, but the line is the line for a reason. Bournemouth 0-2 Arsenal.

Everton vs Luton Town

Kickoff: 10am ET Saturday

Odds:Everton (-175) vs Luton (+500) | Draw (+300)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: Oooh. Are we ready to buy in to the consistency of performances largely shown by Sean Dyche’s Toffees this year? Will Luton be focused on the first of two massive bottom-six scraps in four days? Questions! Everton 1-1 Luton

Newcastle vs Burnley

Kickoff: 10am ET Saturday

Odds: Newcastle (-350) vs Burnley (+875) | Draw (-350)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: The rested Clarets get a further day’s rest and Newcastle seemed to prioritize its player selection to Wednesday’s League Cup match over last Sunday’s trouncing of Sheffield United. But Eddie Howe’s 1B unit thrashed the Blades anyway. A close one here, with Nick Pope triumphing over his former mates. Newcastle 2-1 Burnley

West Ham vs Sheffield United

Kickoff: 10am ET Saturday

Odds: West Ham (-225) vs Sheffield United (+575) | Draw (+360)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: West Ham has a chance to go front foot here and David Moyes would love a big Premier League win over a team that threw open its doors to Newcastle last week. Do Blades have it in them, especially given injuries? West Ham 2-1 Sheffield United.

Wolves vs Man City

Kickoff: 10am ET Saturday

Odds: Wolves (+725) vs Man City (-275) | Draw (+425)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: Injuries and fixture congestion are going to catch up to City at some point soon for at least a week. A much-changed Wolves team threw away a 2-0 lead at Ipswich Town in cup play but will also have an extra day’s rest on the champs. And this is at the Molineux. Can you buy into those ingredients as the recipe for an upset? Max Kilman and Jose Sa will also have to be huge, and Pedro Neto’s magic will have to continue… that’s a lot… so? Wolves 1-3 Man City

Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool

Kickoff: 12:30pm ET Saturday

Odds: Spurs (+190) vs Liverpool (+115) | Draw (+300)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network — Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: No midweek action for Spurs, but both teams are in fine feather and Liverpool has better depth even with some injuries to monitor. This projects to be as fun as the North London derby without as much historical animosity, and we’re guessing the score line looks about the same. Spurs 2-2 Liverpool.

Nottingham Forest vs Brentford

Kickoff: 9am ET Sunday

Odds: Forest (+175) vs Brentford (+160) | Draw (+225)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network — Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Recent history tells us that Brentford’s dips in form don’t last much longer than their current spell, and the Bees aren’t often shut out even when they lose games. Forest 1-1 Brentford.

Fulham vs Chelsea

Kickoff: 3pm ET Monday

Odds: Fulham (+250) vs Chelsea (+105) | Draw (+250)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network — Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Two teams who feel due for a bubble to burst. Fulham’s finding results from tight games but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of strength in the supporting numbers. Chelsea just isn’t scoring but the Blues are feeding each other chances and defending better than most in the Premier League. This London derby has cagey written all over it but also feels like a real chance for a Mauricio Pochettino breakthrough. Fulham 0-2 Chelsea.

Luton Town vs Burnley

Kickoff: 2:30pm ET Tuesday

Odds: Luton (+188) vs Burnley (+145) | Draw (+230)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: Given the lack of rest and the prior week’s League Cup action, it’s likely this will be the scrappiest and maybe sloppiest game of the season. That can lead to entertainment, too, so let’s go with that. Luton 2-3 Burnley.

Odds, predictions for Week 6 of the 2023-24 Premier League season – By Nick Mendola – 7 out of 10 correct results, 3 correct scoresCrystal Palace vs Fulham

Kickoff: 10am ET SaturdayOdds: Palace (-115) vs Fulham (+310) | Draw (+250)TV Channel/Stream: Watch on Peacock Premium

Prediction: The underlying numbers say this should be all Palace, and Selhurst Park isn’t going to hurt any of that either. Fulham’s coming off a clean sheet, so there’s hope but… Palace 2-0 Fulham

Luton Town vs Wolves

Kickoff: 10am ET SaturdayOdds: Luton (+230) vs Wolves (+115) | Draw (+250)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch on Peacock Premium

Prediction: Luton missed out on a big chance for a point if not a win versus Fulham, and Wolves are looking much better of late. Can Kenilworth Road bolster Luton’s hopes? Luton 1-1 Wolves

Man City vs Nottingham Forest

Kickoff: 10am ET SaturdayOdds: Man City (-650) vs Forest (+1650) | Draw (+725)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network – Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Man City is carrying injuries and could be weary from midweek as well, but this seems a bridge too far for improved Forest. The Tricky Trees will make this suitably tricky, however. Man City 4-2 Forest.

Brentford vs Everton

Kickoff: 12:30pm ET SaturdayOdds: Brentford (-130) vs Everton (+350) | Draw (+270)

TV Channel/Stream: NBC – Peacock Premium & Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: The Bees and Toffees are both due for a significant result. Can Everton overcome its goal struggles, away to boot? Brentford 1-1 Everton

Burnley vs Manchester United

Kickoff: 3pm ET SaturdayOdds: Burnley (+333) vs Man Utd (-135) | Draw (+300)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch on Peacock Premium

Prediction: The Clarets got a big win and Man United will be coming off midweek Champions League away to Bayern Munich. Vincent Kompany will have to find cards to play versus his longtime Mancunian rivals. Alas. Burnley 1-3 Man Utd.

Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur

Kickoff: 9am ET SundayOdds: Arsenal (-145) vs Spurs (+350) | Draw (+320)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch on Peacock Premium

Prediction: Arsenal is further along in its project but will have been taxed by midweek action. Derbies tend to level performances, yeah? Arsenal 2-2 Spurs

Brighton vs Bournemouth

Kickoff: 9am ET SundayOdds: Brighton (-275) vs Bournemouth (+425) | Draw (+425)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network – Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Brighton’s depth will be tested after European action, but Bournemouth has a lot of work to do to post consecutive clean sheets against top-end foes. Brighton 2-1 Bournemouth

Chelsea vs Aston Villa

Kickoff: 9am ET SundayOdds: Chelsea (-115) vs Villa (+280) | Draw (+280)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch on Peacock Premium

Prediction: There are going to be big-time questions of Chelsea if it cannot get a win soon, and it’s unclear whether their fans will understand that Unai Emery’s project is much further along. Still… rest vs no rest? Villa’s in Poland on Thursday while Chelsea’s at home in wait. Chelsea 2-1 Villa.

Liverpool vs West Ham

Kickoff: 9am ET SundayOdds: Liverpool (-225) vs West Ham (+550) | Draw (+400)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch on Peacock Premium

Prediction: Don’t overthink this one, even if the Irons have Serbian opposition at home on Thursday. Rested, inspired Liverpool win… probably big. Liverpool 3-1 West Ham.

Sheffield United vs Newcastle

Kickoff: 11:30am ET SundayOdds: Sheff Utd (+575) vs Newcastle (-225) | Draw (+360)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network – Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Newcastle’s had time to recover from their European adventure in Milan, and is probably ready to bust out, too. Blades 0-2 Newcastle

Odds, predictions for Week 5 of the 2023-24 Premier League season – By Andy Edwards – 7 out of 10 correct results, 2 correct scoresWolves vs Liverpool

Kickoff: 7:30 am ET, Saturday

Odds: Wolves (+550) vs Liverpool (-225) | Draw (+400)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Wolves will find some joy on the counter with Virgil van Dijk suspended one more game and Ibrahima Konate perhaps not 100 percent, but as always it comes down to their (in)ability to finish chances. Wolves 1-2 Liverpool.

West Ham vs Manchester City

Kickoff: 10 am ET, Saturday

Odds: West Ham (+500) vs Man City (-210) | Draw (+360)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network | Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: The Hammers have played classic David Moyes-ball to great success thus far, but do you really think Pep Guardiola won’t have a plan (or three) to counteract their counters? West Ham 0-2 Man City.

Manchester United vs Brighton

Kickoff: 10 am ET, Saturday

Odds: Manchester United (+110) vs Brighton (+200) | Draw (+290)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch on Peacock Premium

Prediction: What the Red Devils need is 1) everyone to be healthy and available to play, and 2) lots of time to train Erik ten Hag’s tactical ideas. After the recent international break, they have had neither and the runaway Brighton train is set to steamroll into Old Trafford this weekend. Man United 1-2 Brighton.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Sheffield United

Kickoff: 10 am ET, Saturday

Odds: Tottenham (-350) vs Sheffield United (+875) | Draw (+500)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch on Peacock Premium

Prediction: Spurs are desperate to start games quickly under Ange Postecolgou, as opponents are then forced to push forward in pursuit of an equalizer, which can then snowball very quickly. Maybe more so than any side in the PL, the Tottenham team picks itself, so long as they remain relatively injury-free. Tottenham 3-2 Sheffield United.

Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace

Kickoff: 10 am ET, Saturday

Odds: Aston Villa (-110) vs Crystal Palace (+290) | Draw (+260)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network | Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Until further notice, the safest assumption in the PL is that Aston Villa will beat sides they are supposed to beat, and lose to sides to whom they should be losing. Unai Emery’s side exists in no man’s land, somewhere between good and great. Aston Villa 3-1 Crystal Palace.

Fulham vs Luton Town

Kickoff: 10 am ET, Saturday

Odds: Fulham (-150) vs Luton (+400) | Draw (+290)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch on Peacock Premium

Prediction: Joao Palhinha is expected to return to the lineup following his deadline-day disappointment, and the Portuguese midfielder instantly inspires Fulham to a must-have victory. Fulham 1-0 Luton.

Newcastle United vs Brentford

Kickoff: 12:30 pm ET, Saturday

Odds: Newcastle (-185) vs Brentford (+475) | Draw (+320)

TV Channel/Stream: NBC | Peacock Premium & Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: What Newcastle need more than anything right now is a low-pressure, favorable matchup to return to basics and win an uneventful, boring game. Chaotic Brentford will offer nothing of the sort (2.43 xG per 90 – highest in the PL). Newcastle 1-2 Brentford.

Bournemouth vs Chelsea

Kickoff: 9 am ET, Sunday

Odds: Bournemouth (+320) vs Chelsea (-135) | Draw (+300)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Chelsea need the same that Newcastle need, and fortunately for Mauricio Pochettino, Bournemouth’s best plan of action is to limit scoring chances at both ends of the field. Bournemouth 0-1 Chelsea.

Everton vs Arsenal

Kickoff: 11:30 am ET, Sunday

Odds: Everton (+475) vs Arsenal (-190) | Draw (+350)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: The good news for Everton: they got their first point of the season last time out. The bad news: they needed at the tail end of stoppage time to draw Sheffield United. Perhaps Arsenal will have one eye on their UEFA Champions League return three days later, but… Everton 1-3 Arsenal.

Nottingham Forest vs Burnley

Kickoff: 2:45 pm ET, Monday

Odds: Nottingham Forest (+115) vs Burnely (+225) | Draw (+250)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Nottingham Forest have quietly played quite well in all four of their games (2W-0D-2L), as they comfortably rank mid-table in xGA (1.6 per 90). Burnley, on the other hand, are 19th in xG of their own (0.8 per 90). Nottingham Forest 2-0 Burnley.

Odds, predictions for Week 4 of the 2023-24 Premier League season – By Nicholas Mendola – 5 out of 10 correct results, 1 correct scoreLuton Town vs West Ham

Kickoff: 3pm ET, Friday

Odds: Luton Town (+333) vs West Ham (-125) | Draw (+275)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: The Irons have a couple of terrific wins on their resume but drew Bournemouth when asked to dominate a team. This is a good measuring stick, and West Ham should have enough to at least prolong debates over whether it’s turned a corner. Luton Town 1-2 West Ham

Sheffield United vs Everton

Kickoff: 7:30am ET, Saturday

Odds: Sheffield United (+210) vs Everton (+138) | Draw (+220)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network | Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: A pair of 0-3 teams here, but there are a lot of differences to note. Everton’s been unlucky in at least two of its three outings while the Blades have played three one-goal games and been bossed by Palace and City. They did not deserve much from Forest away, either. Sheffield United 0-1 Everton.

Brentford vs Bournemouth

Kickoff: 10am ET, Saturday

Odds: Brentford (-150) vs Bournemouth (+375) | Draw (+310)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch on Peacock Premium

Prediction: The advanced stats say the unbeaten Bees should be able to keep up that mark at home to a Cherries team in the bottom third for xGA. Brentford 3-1 Bournemouth.

Burnley vs Tottenham Hotspur

Kickoff: 10am ET, Saturday

Odds: Burnley (+280) vs Tottenham Hotspur (-120) | Draw (+290)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch on Peacock Premium

Prediction: The Clarets will take a surprise result or two this season and were rested a bit at midweek in League Cup action a day after Tottenham fell to Fulham in the same competition. Still, 0-3 looks likely for Vincent Kompany’s men. Burnley 0-1 Tottenham.

Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest

Kickoff: 10am ET, Saturday

Odds: Chelsea (-275) vs Nottingham Forest (+675) | Draw (+400)

TV Channel/Stream: USA Network | Watch online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Forest’s played in three one-goal games including losses to Arsenal and Man United. It played a strong team against Burnley in midweek League Cup play, and that seems a bridge too far to keep up the tight fights. Chelsea 3-0 Forest.

Manchester City vs Fulham

Kickoff: 10am ET, Saturday

Odds: Manchester City (-600) vs Fulham (+1500) | Draw (+675)

TV Channel/Stream: Watch on Peacock Premium

Prediction: Man City bossed Burnley and Blades while having a comfortable time in between with Newcastle. Fulham hasn’t been the better team in a single game despite its 1-1-1 record. More of the same, we think. Man City 4-0 Fulham.

Brighton vs Newcastle United

Kickoff: 12:30pm ET, Saturday

Odds: Brighton (+155) vs Newcastle (+150) | Draw (+270)

TV Channel/Stream: NBC | Watch online via NBCSports.com & Peacock Premium

Prediction: Toughest match of the weekend to pick, as Brighton’s allowed 1.89, 2.69, and 2.95 xGA in its three Premier League starts while Newcastle’s lost some luster following disjointed losses to Liverpool and Man City. Brighton 2-2 Newcastle.

Crystal Palace vs Wolves

Kickoff: 9am ET, Sunday

Odds: Crystal Palace (-110) vs Wolves (+320) | Draw (+240)

TV Channel/Stream: Online via Peacock Premium

Prediction: Palace has built its 1-1-1 record by being steady, not spectacular, while Wolves have opted to get after it by any means necessary and have just one fewer point to show for it. Gary O’Neil or Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park? Palace 2-1 Wolves.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa

Manchester City vs Newcastle UnitedKickoff: 3pm ET SaturdayOdds: Manchester City (-160) vs Newcastle United (+400) | Draw (+310)TV Channel/Stream: Watch online via Peacock Premium

Aston Villa vs EvertonKickoff: 9am ET SundayOdds: Aston Villa (-150) vs Everton (+400) | Draw (+290)TV Channel/Stream: USA Network and online via NBCSports.com

Odds, predictions for Week 1 of the 2023-24 Premier League season – By Nick Mendola – 7 out of 10 correct results, 1 correct scoreBurnley vs Man City

Kickoff: 3pm ET FridayOdds: BFC (+850) vs City (-300) | Draw (+450)TV Channel/Stream: USA Network and online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Vincent Kompany should have Burnley more dangerous than most newly-promoted teams, but expecting to go toe-to-toe with a Man City side that already has a competitive game under its belt is a lot. Man City 3-0.

Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest

Kickoff: 7:30am ET SaturdayOdds: Arsenal (-550) vs Forest (+1250) | Draw (+625)TV Channel/Stream: Watch live on Peacock Premium

Prediction: The Gunners will be ready to light the league on fire in pursuit of a PL crown. Forest should be improved this year, but Week 1 away to Arsenal is a big ask. Arsenal 3-1.

Bournemouth vs West Ham United

Kickoff: 10am ET SaturdayOdds: AFCB (+170) vs West Ham (+155) | Draw (+240)TV Channel/Stream: Watch live on Peacock Premium

Prediction: Bournemouth’s at home but these odds seem, well, odd. There’s uncertainty about whether Lucas Paqueta will play given links to Man City, but the Irons still carry more consistency and power against a first-time PL manager in Andoni Iraola. West Ham 2-0.

Brighton vs Luton Town

Kickoff: 10am ET SaturdayOdds: BHAFC (-300) vs Luton (+800) | Draw (+425)TV Channel/Stream: Watch live on Peacock Premium

Prediction: A rude welcome to the Premier League seems likely for the Hatters, especially away from home. Could be a big game for Joao Pedro, who scored in consecutive fixtures away to Luton in the Championship. Brighton 3-0.

Everton vs Fulham

Kickoff: 10am ET SaturdayOdds: EFC (+120) vs FFC (+220) | Draw (+240)TV Channel/Stream: Watch live on Peacock Premium

Prediction: Fulham will be without Joao Palhinha and Tom Cairney, while Everton has several absences but should still be able to claim ground in the midfield. But Aleksandar Mitrovic is still with the club and a tall task for Everton’s back line. Everton 1-1 Fulham.

Sheffield United vs Crystal Palace

Kickoff: 10am ET SaturdayOdds: Blades (+200) vs Palace (+140) | Draw (+220)TV Channel/Stream: Watch live on Peacock Premium

Prediction: No Michael Olise nor Matheus Franca for Palace and Bramall Lane will be hopping, but the Blades have several injury issues as well. Can the Eagles fly without Wilfried Zaha? It’s a long-term question but perhaps not a big worry this week. Blades 1-2 Palace.

Newcastle United vs Aston Villa

Kickoff: 12:30pm ET SaturdayOdds: NUFC (-135) vs Villa (+340) | Draw (+290)TV Channel/Stream: NBC and online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: These odds seem a bit off given what we’ve seen of Villa, but Newcastle has been so good at St. James’ Park under Eddie Howe in only losing to Arsenal and Liverpool at home last season. We’ll side with the bookmakers, if just. Newcastle 2-1 Villa.

Brentford vs Tottenham Hotspur

Kickoff: 9am am ET SundayOdds: Brentford (+175) vs Spurs (+140) | Draw (+260)TV Channel/Stream: Watch live on Peacock Premium

Prediction: Assuming Harry Kane plays, you have to like the odds of the team with its high-flying center forward against the team whose star center forward is suspended through January. Over-simplifying? Brentford will be hoping that’s the case… or that Kane is sold before Sunday. Brentford 1-3 Spurs.

Chelsea vs Liverpool

Kickoff: 11:30am ET SundayOdds: CFC (+180) vs LFC (+135) | Draw (+260)TV Channel/Stream: Watch live on Peacock Premium

Prediction: Oooh boy. What a way for Mauricio Pochettino the formally start a project and for Jurgen Klopp to hope to kick-on his revamped plan. Christopher Nkunku’s injury looms for Chelsea and Mohamed Salah can certainly stake an Opening Day claim against his former mate. Might this come down to an Argentine midfield battle between Enzo Fernandez and Alexis Mac Allister? Chelsea 2-2 Liverpool.

Manchester United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Kickoff: 3pm ET MondayOdds: Man Utd (-300) vs Wolves (+750) | Draw (+425)TV Channel/Stream: USA Network and online via NBCSports.com

Prediction: Can you have a new manager bounce if the new manager arrives four days before the start of the season? Gary O’Neil might find magic with Wolves’ attack-first side, somehow, but to expect it in Week 1 at Old Trafford against Erik ten Hag’s well-oiled Man Utd seems a bit silly. Man Utd 2-0 Wolves.
