Barcelona have finalised a deal with Manchester City to sign full-back Joao Cancelo but the move has been delayed just two days before the transfer window shuts.
Late on Monday, Cancelo was at Lisbon airport ready to fly to Barcelona but was told not the club could not yet afford to complete his loan from Man City.
The 29-year-old has been staying in Lisbon for over a week with City’s permission as a source from Barcelona claims the situation has been caused by a delay in receiving funds from a commercial agreement reached earlier this month.
However, the German company involved, Libero Football Finance, says Barca requested a change in the agreement, and that it does not believe there has been a delay in the payment.
Barca president Joan Laporta and club treasurer Ferran Olive are reportedly preparing to sign a bank guarantee, putting their personal wealth at risk, that will provide the club with an injection of €20m.
It would be the third bank guarantee Barca executives have arranged in this way over the last 12 months.
The Spanish champions need to improve their finances to meet La Liga’s rules on salary spending and as it stands, they cannot sign full-back Cancelo nor can they fully register their squad making some players ineligible to play.

Southampton manager Russell Martin says that Everton are no longer interested in signing striker Che Adams after they signed Beto from Udinese for £25m yesterday.
Adams was not included in Saints’ squad for their game against QPR at the weekend but Martin says the Scotland international could stay after the Toffees backed off.

Crystal Palace’s £70m price tag for Cheick Doucoure is said to be enough to fend off any interest after Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain enquired over the midfielder earlier in the summer.
Liverpool and PSG both approached Palace to register their interest in the 23-year-old defensive midfielder who joined the Eagles last year from Lens for an initial £21m.

Fulham are in talks with Monaco over the sale of Tosin Adarabioyo, after reluctantly accepting the defender will not sign a new contract.
The Ligue 1 club will put a new bid in once a price is agreed, which is expected to be in the next 48 hours. Tosin and his representatives had been telling Fulham over the past few weeks that he would not sign a new contract, and this was reiterated in stronger terms since the 2-2 draw away at Arsenal at the weekend. With Fulham now risking losing the player on a free at the end of the season, they have entered more productive talks with Monaco.

Manchester United are working on a deal to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat before the transfer window closes later this week.
United have been linked with the 27-year-old Moroccan midfielder for most of the summer and are now pushing to agree a loan deal before the deadline.
