Transfer deadline day is over as the window slammed shut for Premier League clubs at 11pm BST, following some frantic last-minute buying and selling.
Liverpool have given their midfield a further boost with the signing of Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich, although they rejected a bid, rumoured to be £150m, from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad for Mohamed Salah. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur finally got their man by securing Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson as Harry Kane’s replacement.
Elsewhere, Man City have sold Cole Palmer to Chelsea, and the London club offloaded Callum Hudson-Odoi to Nottingham Forest after his return from loan. Manchester United, meanwhile, had a very busy day as Sofyan Amrabat came in on loan from Fiorentina, Spurs left-back Sergio Reguilon has signed, Jonny Evans penned a one-year contract and Mason Greenwood left on loan for Spanish side Getafe.
Brighton had something of a coup by nabbing Ansu Fati on loan from Barcelona and Nottingham Forest had their customary slew of incomings.

Mason Greenwood has left Manchester United to join LaLiga side Getafe on a season-long loan.
The Spanish club will pay a small contribution towards his wages and no loan fee. While Greenwood has two years left on his contract at Old Trafford, United announced last week that the forward would not play for them again.
The 21-year-old has not appeared in first-team football since January 2022 and United determined he would leave Old Trafford following a six-month internal investigation into his behaviour.
After disturbing audio and pictures emerged on social media, the forward was charged with attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and controlling and coercive behaviour before the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges after a key witness withdrew their cooperation.

The striker left the Bees for Brighton in 2019, having scored 41 goals in 95 games during his time at Brentford. Maupay had the best goalscoring season of his career under Thomas Frank at Griffin Park, when he netted 25 times in the Championship during the 2018/19 campaign. He was voted Brentford’s Supporters’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year that season, as well as winning the EFL Player of the Year at the London Football Awards.
His career has stalled at Everton but a return to a place he is comfortable could be exactly what he needs.

Wolves have signed Jean-Ricner Bellegarde on a five-year deal from Ligue 1 club Strasbourg.
The 25-year-old can play either as a central midfielder supporting the forwards or in one of the two wider positions.
Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs said: “He’s a player the recruitment team flagged towards the end of last season, and he’s started this season very well.
“He’s athletic, technical and has ability to drive with the ball, and you can see from his goal and assist record that he’s had an excellent start to this season.”

Crystal Palace have signed Rob Holding from Arsenal on a three-year deal.
The 27-year-old centre-back leaves Arsenal after seven years and 162 appearances at the Emirates Stadium, and becomes Palace’s fourth signing of the summer after Jefferson Lerma, Matheus Franca and Dean Henderson.
“I’m excited to get started and get involved,” Holding told the official Palace website. “Playing against Crystal Palace the number of years I have, seeing the fans and how intimidating Selhurst Park can be, and how loud it can get, I’m looking forward to being on the right side of that this time.”

Tottenham have at last completed the signing of Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest in a deal worth £47.5m.
Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou made the Wales international his number one target following the departure of Harry Kane last month and secured the services of the young attacker late on transfer deadline day.
Johnson has signed a deal at Tottenham until the summer of 2029 after bringing his lengthy association at Forest to an end. Versatile forward Johnson made his Forest debut in 2019, following in the footsteps of father David, and went on to make 108 appearances for his boyhood club, scoring 29 goals.
Ex-Lincoln loanee Johnson became a key figure following Steve Cooper’s arrival at the City Ground and was prominent in the club’s promotion to the Premier League in 2022 before he scored eight times last season to guide them to top-flight survival.

Fair to say this will be a controversial one… Mason Greenwood has left Manchester United on a season-long loan deal to Getafe.
The striker was accused of attempted rape, assault or coercive and controlling behaviour last year but the charges were then dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service. Protests against him being reintegrated into the United squad saw the club back away from that and say that he wouldn’t play for them again.
LaLiga side Getafe have now taken him on loan for a year, with a factual statement posted on the club website: “Getafe Football Club have reached an agreement with Manchester United for the arrival of Mason Greenwood on loan for one season.”

Liverpool Reloaded, Jurgen Klopp had termed them. Liverpool Reinvented, he described them a few weeks later. It has been a two-tier, two-year process. If this has been the summer of the midfielder – four in, six out – then 2022 was the year of the attacker. Three signings were arranged, with Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez joining and Cody Gakpo agreeing a deal that was ratified in January 2023, while Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah signed new contracts.
If a window of evolution in the centre of the park was planned, it became a time of revolution. Exit what Klopp termed the most successful midfield in Liverpool’s recent past and enter Alexis Mac Allister in June, Dominik Szoboszlai in July, Wataru Endo in August and now Ryan Gravenberch in September. While Liverpool rejected a £150m bid from Al-Ittihad for Salah, they have spent £150m on the midfield.
“We pretty much had to reinvent the team,” Klopp reflected. “The midfield is already and will be completely new. Over the last few years, we had to do the same with our front line. The most stable area is obviously the last line but now not with injuries and suspensions.”

United will pay a €10m loan fee to the Serie A club with an option to buy Amrabat next summer for a further €20m plus €5m in add-ons, meaning he could cost them £30m.
Manager Erik ten Hag is reunited with Amrabat, who played for him at Utrecht and who has been a target for United for much of the summer.
The 27-year-old had missed Fiorentina’s Conference League play-off against Rapid Vienna and was training alone as he tried to engineer a move to Old Trafford.

Barcelona have borrowed Joao Cancelo from Manchester City for the season as Pep Guardiola has sent the out-of-favour full-back on loan for the second time in eight months.
The 27-year-old was one of two Portugal internationals Barcelona loaned at the end of the transfer window, with forward Joao Felix arriving from Atletico Madrid for the season.
The Spanish champions will pay Cancelo’s wages for the campaign, though the deal does not include an option to purchase him.
Cancelo spent the second half of last season on loan at Bayern Munich after losing his place in Guardiola’s plans as the former Barcelona manager preferred to play central defenders at full-back.
However, while he made 21 appearances for Bayern, they chose not to take up their option to sign him and the former Juventus player was not involved in City’s matchday squads his season, even as Guardiola’s team had defensive injuries.

Liverpool have finally completed the signing of Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich for £34.2m.
The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract at Anfield and takes Jurgen Klopp’s spending on his midfield this summer to £150m.
Klopp has also bought Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo and, after tracking Gravenberch for several years and putting him on his shortlist before the summer transfer window, he revived his interest in the Netherlands international after missing out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
Liverpool had an offer accepted by Bayern on Thursday before the former Ajax player flew to Merseyside and passed a medical. He is still waiting for a work permit.
Liverpool see Gravenberch as a versatile player who can operate as either a No 8 or a No 6 and he adds to a new-look midfield after the summer departures of more experienced players, in James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita.

The protracted Randal Kolo Muani move to Paris Saint-Germain will go ahead, according to RMC Sport. The French champions have been working to complete a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt for the France forward throughout the window and there has been a breakthrough in negotiations for the 24-year-old.
Meanwhile, according to the notorious Fabrizio Romano, João Félix will head on loan to Barcelona from Atlético Madrid (after a fairly nondescript spell at Chelsea last season)

Forest haven’t been as frantic with their player acquisition this window but a busy deadline day has ensued with Callum Hudson-Odoi the latest man to head to the City Ground.
The versatile Chelsea midfielder/forward has made the £8m move to Nottingham after 126 appearances for the Blues. He was once one of the brightest prospects in the country but slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and spent last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen. He’s still only 22 years old, however, and has signed a three-year deal.
Hudson-Odoi said: “It’s massive for me to be here and I can’t wait to get started. It’s a new chapter for me. I know a couple of the boys already which was a big thing for me, and I obviously know the manager well, so it’s nice to be here and see familiar faces around.

The Bundesliga champions submitted a significant bid for the midfielder but Fulham were determined not to lose the 28-year-old this late in the transfer window. Manager Marco Silva had previously said it would be both a “financial and technical decision” over whether Palhinha was sold.

Manchester United have re-signed Jonny Evans on a one-year contract.
The 35-year-old, who made his debut for the club in 2007, had earned a short-term deal after impressing Erik ten Hag when training with them after being released by Leicester.
United have now acted to keep the veteran at Old Trafford for the season, with the Northern Ireland international becoming their third signing of deadline day after Altay Bayindir and Sergio Reguilon.
With Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw injured, Ten Hag is without two of his centre-back options and Evans could soon make his first United appearance since 2015.

The 25-year-old has joined the Italian club for an undisclosed fee, although £2m is the figure being bandied about. Davis joined Villa in 2015 after impressing while on trial and made his debut for the club in January 2017 in an FA Cup tie at Tottenham Hotspur.
He spent the latter part of the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest, helping them clinch promotion to the Premier League while last season, he made 34 appearances for Watford during a season-long loan stint.

Randal Kolo Muani revealed earlier this week that he had been the subject of a record offer from Paris Saint-Germain as the club tested Eintracht Frankfurt’s resolve to keep the French striker. Kolo Muani subsequently refused to train and was left out of Frankfurt’s squad for the Europa Conference League win against Levski Sofia yesterday, but it appears that his departure is not yet totally certain – Miguel Delaney reports that Eintracht Frankfurt are still holding firm on the price they have set for the forward, with time tight to secure a replacement if any deal for Kolo Muani were to go through.

Various outlets are reporting that Chelsea have agreed a deal that would see left back Ian Maatsen join Burnley on an initial loan before a permanent move for £31.5m next summer. The 21-year-old spent last season with Vincent Kompany’s side but is not, it is believed, currently keen on a return – though that is a developing situation.

Tottenham continue to try and trim their squad slightly, with Ange Postecoglou in real danger of having to leave out a couple of senior players from his 25-man Premier League squad. One of those who Spurs would, ideally, like to move on is Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, but finding a destination for the Dane is proving a little tricky with the midfilder said to not be keen on a move across London to Fulham. Fabrizio Romano now reports that Atletico Madrid may be back in the mix for the 28-year-old, but the two clubs are a little way apart on the structure of a possible loan to buy deal.
“No one’s not been integrated, no one hasn’t been training with the team,” Postecoglou said of the situation with a slightly bloated squad a little bit earlier today. “I’m not isolating anyone at the moment.
“Players have got their own reasons for making these decisions but ultimately, come the deadline, we’re going to have to name a 25-man list and we’ve got more than that at the moment, so some people are going to miss out.
“It’s up to them to decide the next step. From my perspective, we haven’t excluded anyone from training.”
Neal Maupay could return to Brentford

Tottenham Hotspur are set to secure their Harry Kane replacement after agreeing a deal with Nottingham Forest to bring Brennan Johnson to north London.
Spurs and Forest were about £10m apart in terms of proposed fee yesterday but after further negotiations today, Miguel Delaney, Chief Football Writer for The Independent, reports that a deal worth an initial £45m, that could rise to £50m, has been agreed.
Johnson is now on his way to Spurs’ training ground to complete his move ahead of the 11pm BST transfer deadline this evening.

“I know people expect it to be different but it is how it is. I really think we did good business, the players we brought in are really good, will help the team. We are less experienced but that is normal, but we are full of desire and I love this team.
“The natural skill-set is obvious but we had to replace the most successful midfield in the young (recent) history of this club.
“Fabinho, Henderson, Milner, Gini Wijnaldum a few years ago. All had big parts in the team. Naby (Keita), (Alex) Oxlade-Chamberlain, they all played big parts in that midfield.
“I think we have much more goal threat in midfield now but the work-rate these guys put in, the stability they gave us was second-to-none and that is what we have to create as well.

Southampton have confirmed the loan signing of highly-rated defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis from Manchester City.
The 21-year-old arrives on a season-long loan from the Premier League champions, returning to the Championship where he was a title winner with Burnley in 2022/23.
Appearing 35 times for Vincent Kompany’s side, the central defender arrives on the south coast with 73 Championship appearances already to his name, having previously enjoyed spells with Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City, with a loan spell at Anderlecht in 2021/22 taking his total senior appearances to 105.
After a standout season at Turf Moor, Harwood-Bellis captained England Under-21s to Euro 2023 glory in the summer, with Lee Carsley’s side lifting the trophy without conceding a single goal.

Their report further clarifies that United will pay his wages in full and there’s a mid-season break clause. The knock-on effect is of course that Marc Cucurella and Nicolas Tagliafico, both previously linked to cover Luke Shaw’s injury, will stay at their clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur are still in talks with Nottingham Forest over Brennan Johnson but, with a huge distance in terms of the fee, it is expected that the deal goes to the very last hours of the window and may not be agreed at all.
There is currently a huge difference between the two positions, with the situation tempered by the fact the two figures involved are two of the hardest negotiators in the Premier League, in Daniel Levy and Evangelos Marinakis.
Forest had already set a price of £40m, although Brentford have already gone to that only to get rebuffed. Marianakis is understood to see the west London club as a direct rival.
The player himself is open to Brentford but his first preference is Spurs. Johnson wants the deal but is obviously prepared to be professional about it.

Henderson will cost Palace an initial £15m with a further £5m in add-ons and he will compete with Sam Johnstone for the position in Roy Hodgson’s team.
Henderson has signed a five-year deal at Selhurst Park while long-serving goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, who Hodgson said refused to play for the club in pre-season, could leave on Friday.

Yesterday’s big news for the top teams was that Anfield’s top brass came to a resolution with Bayern Munich, as Liverpool have agreed a £34.2m fee with Bayern Munich for midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.
The Netherlands international is flying to Merseyside for a medical and is set to sign a five-year contract for Liverpool on deadline day.
The 21-year-old, who was also a target for Liverpool last summer, will leave Bayern after only one year and just three starts in the Bundesliga.
He will become Liverpool’s fourth major summer signing and take their spending on midfielders in this transfer window to around £150m, after the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo.

Tottenham Hotspur are still in talks with Nottingham Forest over Brennan Johnson but, with a huge distance in terms of the fee, it is expected that the deal goes to the very last hours of the window and may not be agreed at all.
There is currently a huge difference between the two positions, with the situation tempered by the fact the two figures involved are two of the hardest negotiators in the Premier League, in Daniel Levy and Evangelos Marinakis.
Forest had already set a price of £40m, although Brentford have already gone to that only to get rebuffed. Marianakis is understood to see the west London club as a direct rival.
