Manchester United 3-2 Aston Villa: Key stats

Manchester United have now won 14 Premier League games in which they’ve trailed by at least two goals, at least five more such wins than any other side.

United have ended a run of three successive Premier League games without a win (D1 L2) or a goal.

Aston Villa are the final side in the Premier League this season to drop points from a winning position. It’s the first time they’ve led by at least two goals in a game in the competition and lost since a 3-2 defeat to Manchester City in May 2022.

Alejandro Garnacho’s goal in the 59th minute for Manchester United ended a run of 439 minutes in all competitions without a goal, since Scott McTominay’s winner against Chelsea earlier this month in the 69th minute.

John McGinn is the first Aston Villa player to score a direct free-kick in an away Premier League game since Ashley Westwood in March 2014 against Manchester United.

Leander Dendoncker’s goal for Villa in the 26th minute is just the fourth time a visiting side to United in the Premier League have gone 2-0 up in the 26th minute or earlier – the other three being Newcastle United in October 2018, Liverpool in October 2021 and Nottingham Forest in August earlier this season.
