Steve Cherundolo, who guided Los Angeles FC to an MLS crown in his first season as coach and into this year’s final in his second, has signed a multi-year contract extension.

LAFC announced late Wednesday that the 44-year-old American, a former US national team defender and captain of German side Hannover, would stay with the club.

“I’m excited to continue our journey together after two emotional, invigorating and successful years,” Cherundolo said.

“Together with our phenomenal fans, we remain hungry and prepared for more.”

LAFC, which hired Cherundolo in January 2022 to replace Bob Bradley, also reached the final of this year’s CONCACAF Champions League, losing to Mexican side Leon.

“In two years with LAFC, Steve has proven to be one of the top coaches in our league,” LAFC general manager John Thorrington said.

“When we hired Steve, we were confident that his leadership qualities and unique blend of international and domestic experience would be the perfect fit for LAFC, and he has more than delivered on our high expectations.”
