Accrington Stanley: Police investigate after objects thrown at goalkeeper during Wrexham game

Accrington’s Jon McCracken blocks a shot from Paul Mullin

Police are investigating after objects were thrown at Accrington goalkeeper Jon McCracken during their League Two home game against Wrexham.

The 23-year-old, who is on loan from Norwich City, was allegedly targeted with four vapes and cigarette lighters.

He was uninjured, but 10 minutes of stoppage time were played at the end of the match, which Accrington won 2-0.

“We are now asking anybody who can help our enquiries to get in touch,” said Ch Supt Melita Warswick.

“A football match should be a family-friendly event and this type of incident, where items have been thrown at a player, is utterly unacceptable.”

Neither club has so far commented on the matter.
