Top Somerset County playoff performers for Oct. 24-26


Athlete of the Week

Berlin Brothersvalley soccer player Maddy Richardson was voted Daily American Somerset County Female Athlete of the Week, Conemaugh Township’s Cameron Dunn was selected Football Athlete of the Week, and North Star soccer player was chosen Male Athlete of the Week for their efforts Oct. 16-19.

Richardson recorded a hat trick in a soccer victory over Ligonier Valley.

Dunn had an 83- and 84-yard kickoff return for touchdowns in a narrow loss to Marion Center.

Meanwhile, Hemminger tallied two goals and an assist in a 5-2 soccer victory over Northern Bedford.

Wednesday

Boys soccer

District 5 Class 2A semifinals

Somerset 5, Chestnut Ridge 0: The second seed Golden Eagles blanked the third seed Lions to advance to the championship match.

Girls soccer

District 5 Class 1A quarterfinals

Conemaugh Township 9, Fannett-Metal 1: Ashlyn Fetterman recorded three goals and three assists to lift top-seeded Conemaugh Township over Fannett-Metal.

Olivia Mauzy scored two goals, while Izzy Slezak and Briar Berkey each tallied a goal and an assist. Sophia Stango added a goal, and Andi Hunsberger and Matty Mauzy each provided an assist.

Conemaugh Township will host No. 4 seed Northern Bedford at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Windber 3, Berlin Brothersvalley 0: Riley Brubaker provided a goal and an assist for the third seed Ramblers in a shutout of the sixth seed Mountaineers.

Kaylee Dowdell and Mariah Andrews each scored a goal, while Nici Costlow added an assist. Rylee Baer pitched the shutout.

Windber will travel to second-seeded McConnellsburg for a 6 p.m. semifinal matchup.

Northern Bedford County 5, Rockwood 3: Mollie Wheatley delivered two goals and an assist for the fifth seed Rockets in a setback to the fourth seed Black Panthers.

Addie Barkman scored a goal, while Faith Foy and Autumn Mowry each had an assist for Rockwood.

Tuesday

Cross country

Somerset freshman Emily Fisher won the District 5 Class 2A girls cross country championship in a time of 19:10.

Somerset’s Jared Walker (20:35) and Ethan Speelman (20:37) finished ninth and tenth, respectively, to qualify for states.

The Johnstown Christian girls won the team title in Class 1A. Lydia Hostetter finished second in 22:49. Meyersdale’s Aurora Comfort (23:28) took third.

Meyersdale won the team title in the Class 1A boys race. Windber’s Garrett Page (18:10) finished second, while Meyersdale’s Bryan Donitzen (19:12) took fifth.
