he would ‘help the team a lot’

Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva says he has spoken to Paulo Dybala about joining Chelsea but refuses to disclose ‘what he told him.’

The Roma attacker’s contract includes a €12m (£10.6m) release clause which is valid until July 31st. So, he could be one of the bargains of the summer.

As previously reported by Football365, Chelsea are one of the clubs who hold a concrete interest in signing Dybala. Manchester United have him on their radar, too.

But, the Argentina international’s future is far from decided. So, the Blues could do with all the help they can get.

Now, it seems Silva has been doing his best to lure Dybala to Stamford Bridge.

In a recent interview at Silverstone during the British Grand Prix, the centre-back said Dybala would be a great addition to the Chelsea squad.

“I saw Paulo Dybala here, they talk about him at Chelsea,” he told Sky Sports. “I hope he arrives.

“I’ve talked with him and asked him if he is coming. He answered me, but I can’t say what he told me.

“I would really like him to become a Chelsea player, he is a top player. It would help the team a lot.”

Last season, Dybala made 25 Serie A appearances for Roma. In the process, he scored 12 goals and made seven assists.

Considering Chelsea scored just 38 league goals as a whole last term, it’s fair to say a similar contribution would be invaluable at Chelsea.

A versatile player, Dybala has the ability to play as a striker, an attacking midfielder and as a winger. So, he could provide cover in multiple areas for Mauricio Pochettino.

Interestingly, Pochettino has tried to sign the World Cup winner once before. Indeed, the manager tried to bring him to Tottenham in 2019. At the time, he was playing for Juventus.

Now, Pochettino will be hoping for better luck this time around. So, it will be interesting to see if Chelsea do meet Dybala’s £10.6m release clause over the next few weeks.

It’s clear the former Spurs manager is focusing on improving his attacking options. For instance, the Blues have already brought in Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, who can both play as centre-forwards.

Also, Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic is another key target. Although, Tottenham have reportedly made a bid for the striker.

With Man Utd also in the race for Dybala. So, Chelsea will have to move quickly to get their man.

Silva ended his interview with some well wishes for Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who have just joined AC Milan.

“Pulisic is a good guy, he’s going to do very well at Milan – the same as Ruben Loftus-Cheek,” Silva added.
