Vote for the Austin-area boys high school athlete of the week

It’s time to make your choice for the Austin-area boys high school athlete of the week for April 1-6. Vandegrift soccer player Yandel Andrade was voted the top boys athlete for March 25-30.

This week’s list of five nominees is made up of a pair of soccer players who have led their teams to the UIL state tournament and also three baseball players:

High School Athlete of the Week polls

Tristan Ciechanowicz, Dripping Springs baseball

Ciechanowicz went 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double and seven RBIs during an 18-11 win over Westlake on April 2.

Ryley Leininger, Georgetown baseball

Leininger struck out 11 and allowed no earned runs in 6⅔ innings during a key 6-2 District 23-5A win over Hendrickson on April 5.

Jayden Lopez, Johnson baseball

Lopez pitched a complete game with five strikeouts and no earned runs to pace the Jaguars in a 3-1 win vs. Bowie on April 5.

Keller Marchant, Glenn soccer

During the Grizzlies’ run to this week’s state tournament, the junior goalie has recorded four shutouts and only allowed one goal — which came on a penalty kick — in five playoff games.

Charlie Reed, Vandegrift soccer

Reed, the Vipers’ Clemson-bound goalie, recorded two shutouts in the regional tournament and made two key saves in a semifinal shootout to help the Vipers reach the state tournament.
