Dortmund draws 10-man Bayern Munich in stoppage

Anthony Modeste’s close-range header stopped Bayern Munich from extending its Klassiker dominance and ensured that the Bundesliga’s wild early season would continue further into October.

Modeste and BVB erased a 2-0 Bayern lead at the Westfalenstadion on Saturday, completing the task in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Adding to the drama was the fact that the final whistle may have already come were it not for Kingsley Coman’s second yellow card of the game, which came in the 90th minute to send Bayern down to 10 men.

Bayern had led 2-0 through goals from Leon Goretzka and Leroy Sane put the visitors and perennial champions in firm control with 37 minutes to play in Dortmund.

But Modeste assisted a goal for 17-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko in the 74th minute and Modeste planted a Nico Schlotterbeck ball in the back of the net to get BVB a point.

The goal means Moukoko is the youngest goal scorer in Klassiker history.

The draw denies both rivals a place atop the table and gives Union Berlin and Freiburg the chance to take sole possession of first place on Sunday.

Freiburg’s at Hertha Berlin at 11:30am ET before Union visits Stuttgart at 1:30pm ET.

Union and Freiburg entered Sunday with 17 points each, one more than Bayern and Dortmund. Werder Bremen has 15, Hoffenheim and Eintracht Frankfurt have 14, and Koln and Augsburg have 13.

So, yeah, we’ve got a race for now (and for once).
