Harry Kane sends message to Bayern Munich teammates after ‘turning point’ Champions League win

Harry Kane has called on Bayern Munich to use their 3-0 victory over Lazio as a “turning point” in their faltering season.

Kane scored twice as Bayern reached the Champions League quarter-finals by overturning a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in Rome.

While Kane has scored 33 goals in 33 games in all competitions during an excellent first season in Bavaria, Bayern have struggled in the Bundesliga and trail leaders Bayer Leverkusen by ten points.

Failure to win the Bundesliga title would mark the first time Bayern have not been crowned German champions since 2012 and would prolong Kane’s wait for the first silverware of his senior career.

“If we perform like that in most games, we’re going to come out with a victory”, Kane said.

“It was a pleasing day. It’s been a good season so far in terms of the goals, but as a team we know we can do better.

“I’m trying to help that situation, and I hope we can use this as a turning point to push on in the Bundesliga, see if we can put pressure on Leverkusen, and see who we can get in the next round of the Champions League.”

Under-fire Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel agreed last month to step down from his role at the end of the season.

Speaking after last night’s win, Tuchel revealed he suffered a suspected broken toe during an impassioned dressing room speech to his players.

He said: “I kicked a box in the dressing room during the motivational speech and hurt my big toe. It was the wrong technique. I don’t think I can take the shoe off.

“The team was wondering why I was sitting for almost 90 minutes. It hurts, it’s painful. It feels like I broke it.”
